Phils, Rollins agree to 5 year, $40 million extension
Shortstop Jimmy Rollins and the Philadelphia Phillies have reached a 5 year, $40 million agreement. This is a good move by the Phillies because Rollins would have been a free agent after the 2006 season and he probably would have signed somewhere else for more money.
The parameters of the contract:
$5 million signing bonus
2006- $4 million
2007- $7 million
2008- $7 million
2009- $7.5 million
2010- $7.5 million
2011- $8.5 million (club option) or $2 million buy out.
